Origin of Dhassy Jattha
A word my daughter said becomes the name and then the logo of this site. Our little daughter at 15 months pronounces incomprehensible words: "dasi iata, dasi iata, dasi iata". One morning, while playing, she spoke these words as a song, like a melody. She repeated them insistently while my wife and I saw her play with joy. During the evening of the same day, we reminded her of the little symphony and she started singing again: "dasi iata, dasi iata, dasi iata". At that point, those first words of my daughter strike me for their sonority, hearing them reminds me of an indigenous word that I heard in the past … "yutta hey" the cry of Cherokee in battles which means "today is a beautiful day to die". So, I sat down to write my daughter words and I remember that I started with "dasy yutta" but, it wasn't yuta; my daughter's word was "iata". so in retrospect, I didn't want to write something that could have another meaning, maybe offensive to the Cherokee or to any other american indian language. Therefore, I decided to eliminate the "y" and the "u" in yutta and wrote Jata because the "J" in Latin had the same sound as the "Y". Only for "dasi" I kept the "y" and it came out to be "Dasy Jata". Since my daughter pronounced the "s" strongly then I wrote Dassy Jata. From there on, my imagination moved on ..., perhaps to make it a little extravagant, and it became "Dahssy Jattha". Words are important!
