These beautiful seven teachings are part of the Objiwe tradition and properly of the ANISHINAABE. It is also known by the following names; THE SEVEN GRANDFATHERS or, THE SEVEN GIFTS OF GRANDFATHERS. The origin of these teachings is unknown but, it is part of their tradition since the most remote times and is a very important part of their daily life, to give the best of themselves.
The seven teachings are seven virtues, represented by seven Animals and not only ... (also Sabe), to help us become good people. It seems like they telling us - BE A GOOD PERSON - to each one of us.
Allow me to give a humble opinion on what will follow: it seems to me that these seven Grandfathers have fully observed the behavior of these seven Animals and not only ... (even Sabe) and, have associated to each one of Them, seven Virtues!
But, the association of these Seven Virtues with these Seven Animals is perfect!
Every Animal one Virtue!
It also seems to me, that these Grandfathers of ours understood very well human nature and their weaknesses in human beings. They understood very well that to live daily in the Circle of these Seven Virtues to "Live Well" was not an easy task.
This is why through these relatives of ours (animals) and their behavior / virtue, they have established a sort of lifeline to help human weakness to avoid falling into error and, if it were to fall into error, into the contrary of these virtues - what they call the rascals - they could get up relying on themselves and imitating the behavior of these creatures, to return to the circle of the seven virtues to "Live Well" again!
To me, the most beautiful and poetic thing is that these Grandfathers of ours knew very well, even the fascination that these seven creatures (Animals) exercised on human beings or better yet, on children and on all those who growing up remain children in their hearts.
Who among us, did not want to be a bear, a wolf or, an eagle when we were little and, I go without fear to say, even when grown up !!!!
Sure enough our Grandfathers knew it well!
Therefore, if you want to be like a bear you must have the virtue of the bear and, if you want to "Live Well" and close the Circle, you must make the Virtues of these Seven Creatures your own.
Thank you.
